The
phrase "New Year, New Me" always struck me as odd. What
does that even mean? How would an arbitrary number, like a new year..
Turn someone into an almost "new" person, and why? You may
be thinking that its a joke and people aren't really serious about
that, or that we are over thinking it. On the contrary, we can see
new year resolutions as essentially the same concept. A blind person
can see that people are definitely serious about that, its become an
phenomenon at this point in our society. If that doesn't make it
serious, then maybe the millions in profit these companies rake in
from all these new resolutions does. Now that we have established
that this is not a joke and is a serious thing, again we ask.. Why?
Its
very clearly a psychological thing, with some added help from big
companies and society's influence as a whole. "New beginnings"
are very romanticized. It has become an unconscious thing that the
current life style we are living is not adequate, not good enough.
Why do we need resolutions or for us to become newer better people?
The questions are virtually endless.. Why wait for the new year? Why
not make resolutions every day? Why not be a "new me" in
September? Why bother with any of that, why cant you be fulfilled the
same way before and after new years? It can get very ridiculous, as
you can see. The truth is, there is not real good reason as to
"why?". Have you even asked yourself why? Probably not, you
just do it. Its the norm, everybody else does it, and its a hallow
way of trying to validate ones self.
Once
you get passed all the conditioning and pressure of the new years
season, some may begin to realize something. You don't need to
change, be a new person, or make any resolutions.. You just need to
be the person you truly want to be. That person is in you, it always
has been. And that person does not need some date, holiday, or
anything else like that.. That person just need you to have the
passion and desire to be the best that you can be... 24/7, all year
round. Don't wait for new years, your birthday, Christmas, a new
relationship, a break up, or any other trivial event to be the best
person you can be. Do it right now! From the day that you were born,
you were already complete. You were the same person then, and you
will be the same person 10 years from now. You don't need this "New
Year, New Me" thing to make yourself happy.. You just need to
the same old you. Thats all who you will ever need, to love
yourself.
