22. Angry Grandpa And His Legacy
On December 10 2017, the world lost an icon. Charles Green Jr. aka the Angry Grandpa, passed away due to health complications. He was a YouTube legend and was loved by millions of supporters online. His rise to fame were his hilarious fits of anger and destruction, usually caused from pranks by his son Michael Green. Such a simple formula, raised him to stardom. He called his fans "youngins" and I was lucky enough to be a part of that group. I want to share a little history about how I found out about him and what I thought about him then, up to now. How he went from some "crazy old guy" online to one of the most beloved people of my entire life. Here is how it all started..
If you want to get technical the first video I ever saw of his was "Angry Grandpa Hates Justin Bieber". From what I could tell, it was also the only major thing we had in common. While I whole heartedly agreed with the message, I will admit my initial impression of Angry Grandpa was not the best. I kinda found him just crass, angry, and just white trash-y. Uninterested, after that video I just moved on. A year or two later, liquid ass pranks were all the rage as everybody was doing them and I found them hilarious at the time. As I was searching up liquid ass pranks on YouTube, I found Angry Grandpas video. I watched it and absolutely loved the video, it was hilarious and I realized that this was the same guy who made the Justin Bieber hate video! I thought he was allot more funnier and interesting that I gave him credit for. Then came that fateful thought in my head that became the beginning of the beginning... "I wonder what other kind of videos this guy has?". The rest is history. Little by little I became more and more interested in this mans life and the hilarity that would ensue when he raged. He had a very unique gift, that is so rare to have. He was able to turn a toxic emotion such as ANGER into a positive thing. Keep in mind, before he started these video.. He was in a bad place in life. But his son had the amazing idea of recording him and posting them online for people to see, which catapulted his standard of living tremendously. He ironically was able to use his destructive anger to not only help him and those around him have a better life, but he helped so many of his fans live and laugh. For years I would religiously watch and enjoy the various videos he and his son Michael posted. I even got a few people close to me to start watching him, such was his angry charm. That is what I would reply to someone who asks me "Why do you watch him?", because he just had that charm that nobody else had. I always had this thought in my mind, if someone can make me laugh then they are good in my book. Needless to say, he was engraved in gold in my book.
There is so much more I can say about Angry Grandpa, but I will get to the point. His videos were quite literally one of a kind, and I thank his son Michael Green for being the one who started it all. Everyone has said this, the last 10 years of his life were the happiest years of his life, because of us loving fans. He was uplifted from poverty and terrible health and became a YouTube star to so many people. I have been a fan for many years, and I always looked forward to his videos. I might even say he was my favorite YouTuber. It broke mine and so many others heart to know that he passed away, but he will live on in our hearts forever. His anger brought him life and through his videos transcends death, which will bring laughter and joy to millions for years to come. He leaves a living legacy through his children Charles(Charlie) Green, Jennifer Green, Kimberly Pratt, and Michael Green whom were supporting him in his daily life and are also YouTubers. But just as grand is the legacy he leaves for all of us yougins, and the impact he had on all of us. I will and forever being a loyal fan of his, in and life and in death. The Angry Grandpa is not gone, but has ascended to the status of legendary. With that, as a loyal youngin I say.. Rest In Peace Angry Grandpa. I cant wait to meet you, as I too have become a part of your legacy.
