61. “I Hate People”

“I hate people”.
How many times have we heard that phrase?
I swear I must have heard that line at least ten thousand times in my life.
What does it mean REALLY? I know it’s supposed to be a half funny, dry, sarcastic throw away line we use when we are very frustrated with people. But I have always pondered that saying.. Because apart of me thinks that it’s not just some “jokey” thing people say, but that theres a far darker deeper meaning to it.
Why do we hate people?
Or the better question is..
Why do YOU hate people?
Most of you would say that people deserve it, due to their actions.. After all we are the only species on Earth that we know of that hates itself, yet in incredible irony.. Cannot live without each other. Ever since time immemorial, humans have done two things without fail.. Work together and kill each other. We still have the curse of tribalism and distrust of anyone who isn’t “like” us. Its crazy that even after thousands of years we still have to learn how to tolerate and cooperate with our fellow man on a global level, CONSISTENTLY. But I’m going to focus on the deeper darker side for this writing.. How and why we hate each other.
Why humanity hates itself.
For the record I know it’s not ALL of humanity, but it’s a very large amount, a worrying amount. But I will be referring to those that do in this blog. I believe there are so many factors at play, it’s impossible to list them all. I do have a couple of conventional and relatable reasons, that in my opinion are huge factors in what creates this Misanthropic tendency in so many people. First we will start at the roots, a troubled childhood and upbringing. For the vast majority of us, the seeds of hate were planted in us the day after we were born.. As we would be molded by broken families and life long traumas. Molded into these bitter, angry, and resentful people. Where we would curse each other, and the very day we were born. It makes so much sense in such a depressing way.. If our own flesh and blood family can hurt and fail us, what hope could we have for the rest of humanity? They say we are not born with hate, it is created and sadly.. It is mass produced. The biggest and most out there unfortunate side effect of this, especially lately.. Has been mass shooters. Why are there so many young teenage mass shooters? They are broken people, from broken family’s, with broken childhood’s… Besides those factors, what is one thing they all have in common? They all HATE humanity in one way or another… And they hate themselves even more(this is going to be a reoccurring theme in this writing).
The second reason is really just the next part of the cycle, a troubled adulthood. It is very hard out there now a days, and for an individual who did not have the best childhood.. A rough adult life is going to be even worse. You again have so many factors.. Poverty, mental illness, abusive relationships, grueling low paying jobs, or even worse joblessness, inflation, bills, child costs, wars, and so much more. All of these factors can cause a person to lose hope, to go into a dark place, and HATE everyone around them.. Including themselves. Unhappy adults tend to create unhappy children, and that dark cycle continues perpetually.. The perfect example of misanthropic behavior, if not the poster boy for it.. Is a certain dictator of World War Two Germany. His life was very well documented and we are fully aware how he became the monster he was. A troubled and abusive childhood with almost no love at all, turned into a struggling and bitter artist with no hope or love in his heart for his fellow man. Mix all that with crushing poverty and a brutal first World War… All that INFINITE hate and darkness within him turned him into one of the worst people to have ever existed.. If not THE worst. He hated the vast majority of humanity, any that didn’t look like the “ideal” person to him. Millions perished in the worst ways possible, and the world we knew was changed forever. All because one man hated (most of) humanity, and I believe, he hated himself even more.
Humanity has a bad habit of creating people that hate humanity.
The final reason why I think humanity is self hating, is a much more recent and “mainstream” reason. Politics… If all of humanity was a single human body, I would call politics the worst cancer of all. I believe fewer things create and foster misanthropic people, more efficiently than politics. I cannot imagine for the life of me, what is the benefit of politics and political parties? It is a way of thinking, literally created and intended to divide and split people apart. Thats the only reason it even EXISTS. Politics turns normal people into fanatics and hate filled cult members, who live in this “us vs them” rabid like mentality. People call themselves republicans and democrats, but what does any of that really mean? Nothing, it’s all meaningless. Just another outdated and obsolete part of our stupid tribal brains that wants to be a part of a group(aka tribe).. To go to war with people who think differently from us, to HATE people who think differently from us. In my opinion, politics is misanthropy with a “pretty” mask on, I think it was one of our worst creations. And of course it all just gets worse, never better. At the time of this writing (July 2024), politics is probably at its most volatile and worst state I have ever seen. The country(USA) some would say, HATES itself and its citizens are split between sides, some would also say we were very close to civil war recently. All because of this stupid concept, that has in allot of cases pinned brother against brother, father against son, mother against daughter, and so much worse.. This “culture war” is just humanity’s way of self harm, a literal war against itself. Politics… The ultimate misanthropic cancer.
And that cancer has metastasized unfortunately.
All over the world..
In conclusion, I know this was a very dreary post, but a necessary one to talk about. Humanity and people as a whole, are very sick. We have forgotten how to be brothers and sisters in unity, we have lost our way. Regardless if it was from a broken childhood, troubled adult life, or extreme political views. I have personally made it my mission to never hate my fellow man.. Not any more. I was so filled with hate once, I wasn’t misanthropic or anything, I had a small list of people I hated.. But I despised them immensely. Now I’m not perfect, I’m still working on purging the hate from my heart. But deep inside, I love humanity.. I just hate how we act. I hate the sin, not the sinner one might say. So I never felt right saying “I hate people”, I simply could not say it and would never say it… because I didn’t hate people.. Not all of them, I just hated a few bad people. The ones I thought deserved to be hated. But we should never waste our lives hating others, because we are the ones who suffer from it.. Not them. Hate is a drug, a powerful addictive one.. And far too many of us are addicted to it, I was for a long time. It’s time to come clean.. It’s time to let go, forgive not just the people we hate, but all of humanity.. Including ourselves most of all. You should do it, not for them.. But for YOU.
Because thats what it’s really all been about..
We hate humanity.
Because we hate ourselves.
…
You see..
“I hate people”.
Was only ever half of it, the other hidden half was…
“I hate myself”.
Misanthropy in its true form, is self hatred.
And if we don’t stop it now, it will destroy the entire world one day.
It will destroy us all.
But we can beat it together.
You don’t have to love every single person in the world or anything like that.
You just have to love yourself.
You just have to love YOU.
…
The next time you want to say..
“I hate people”.
Say this instead:
“I love people…
AND I love myself even more”.
You are correct, we need to stop the hatred but I’m afraid we are bent toward it. Sinful world we live in.
